SENECA FALLS — Waterloo Container Co. has awarded a $5,000 grant to FLX Craft Beverage Environmental Coalition — or FLX CBEC — to help the new sustainability group expand its programming.
The FLX CBEC was established in 2023 to advocate for sustainable environmental policies by Finger Lakes craft beverage producers, including wineries, breweries, cideries, distillers and tourism-related partners.
Its purpose is to educate members and promote environmentally sound business practices to address the main challenges posed by the changing climate in the Finger Lakes region.
“FLX CBEC is humbled and honored to receive this gift from Waterloo Container, a company that puts into practice the triple bottom line of people, planet and profits,” said Vinny Aliperti, secretary and co-founder of FLX CBEC and co-owner of Billsboro Winery in Geneva. “FLX CBEC believes that our industry is the Finger Lakes. Agri-tourism’s growth and development is inextricably tied to a healthy environment, so it’s incumbent upon us stakeholders to protect our resources for the next generation of makers and growers.”
Waterloo Container, on Route 414 in Seneca County, is a supplier of wine bottles, caps, corks and closures for the wine industry. The family-owned company has been in business for 40 years.
“Waterloo Container is proud to make this donation to the FLX CBEC, giving their coalition more freedom and ability to expand their programming,” company President Bill Lutz said. “Promoting sustainable practices and advocating for the environmental health, safety and well-being of our industries is of the utmost importance to us.”
